ELECTROFETE 2K20!

A National Level Technical Symposium “ELECTROFETE 2K20” was organized by the Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department with “SPICEE” and “IE(I)” on 04.03.2020. The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr.P.Veena, Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, KSRIET. 71 students from different colleges were participated in different events i.e. 55 students – Paper Presentation and 16 students – Project Expo. Students also actively participated in other events like Techno Word, Technical MEME, Short Films, Photography and Fun events.

Workshop on Graphical Approach in PLC!

A One Day Workshop on “Graphical Approach in PLC” was organized by the Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department with “SPICEE” & “IE(I)” on 03.03.2020. Dr.P.Manoj Kumar, AP/EEE/KSRCT gives hands on training in PLC using Domore design software. Student’s learnt the basics of PLC and simulation of ladder logic diagram.

A Guest Lecture on “HVDC AND ITS APPLICATIONS” is organized by the association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering ‘SPICEE’ and ‘IE(I)’ on 29.02.2020. Resource Person Er.Murali Palaniyappan, Project Lead Engineer, ABB Private Limited, Chennai addressed about the students with how to overcome the drawbacks in conventional DC transmission line with recent advancements in HVDC.

NPTEL Live Session!

Prof. Shaik Rafi Ahmed, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati delivered a lecture on “Microprocessors and Interfacing” through YouTube Live (Smart Class Room) on Tuesday, 18 February 2020 from 11.00 am – 12.00 noon. His lecture was broadcasted to the Pre-Final Year Students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

A one day workshop on “Arduino, a Course in the IoT Series” was conducted through A-VIEW on Saturday, 08 February 2020, from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm at Main Building Seminar Hall. Dr.M.K.Elango, Professor and Head, Department of EEE, KSRCT coordinate this workshop.

GUEST LECTURE ON “INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION”

On behalf of SPICEE Association and Institutions of Engineers India IE(I) Students’ Chapter, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on “Industrial Automation” in main building seminar hall on 30.08.2019. The Speaker for the lecture was Er. S. KEERTHIVASAN, Application Engineer, C CUBE Technologies, Erode. Er. S. Keerthivasan has started his session with an introduction to Industrial Automation and its benefits in industries. He elaborated about the importance of automation in present scenario. He motivated the students to design some automated projects related to the subjects like Control Systems, Measurements and Instrumentation. He also gave an overview about circuit designing through the Electrical CAD, Multisim, and Eagle which are all the software packages that allows an electrical engineer to create and manage electrical schematics. He instructed the students to learn more practical things regarding the core subjects. And also he discussed about PLC and recent developments in the field of automation. His session was very useful and provided a guidance for the students to develop their technical knowledge.

Guest lecture on “Indian Energy Scenario and Importance of Renewable Energy Resources”

On behalf of Society of Powerful Innovative and Creative Electrical Engineers (SPICEE) Association and Institutions of Engineers India IE(I) students’ chapter, Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on “Indian Energy Scenario and Importance of Renewable Energy Resources” on 15th July 2019 at Kanini Karutharangam. The objective of such programmes is to provide an opportunity to the students and the staff members of the department to interact with the senior experienced faculty of the Universities and other leading academic Institutions. Dr. M. K. Elango, Head of the Department welcomed the gathering and addressed about the power scenario in India. Followed by the chief guest Dr. A. Anbarasan, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Prasad V. Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology was the main speaker of the occasion. Dr. A. Anbarasan discussed in detail about the importance of renewable energy resources and elaborated about the power sector of India. The policies of Ministry of Power of India has also been discussed. He motivated the students towards innovative and creative approaches to reduce the technical losses and to provide a constant power supply throughout the India.

“Anna University sponsored Faculty Development Training Programme on Protection and Switchgear (EE 6702)”

A six days Anna University sponsored Faculty Development Training Programme on Protection and Switchgear (EE 6702) is organized by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in main building seminar hall at K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode during 27th May 2019 to 01st June 2019. Dr. R. Balamurugan and Mr. C. Srinivasan are the coordinators for the FDTP. The programme started with the registration of 30 participants from various engineering colleges in and around Tamil Nadu including 5 internal participants. Dr. M. K. Elango, Professor and Head / EEE, inaugurated the FDTP and delivered about the importance of protection of power system components by quoting, “Prevention is better than Cure.” He also addressed about the challenges in the Protection and the prevention methods for that. He also asked the faculty participants to make use of the lectures for effective teaching of this subject in simplest way to the students. The inaugural address is followed by the session taken by Er. R.Rajan, Assistant Engineer, Meter and Relay Testing, TANGEDCO, Namakkal. He briefed about the practical causes of failures in switch gear components and methods to protect it. The sessions are handled by the resource persons like, Dr. B. Gopinath, Prof/EEE/Vivekananda College of Engineering for Women, Tiruchengode, Dr. N. P. Subramanian, Prof/EEE/Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry, Dr.K.Yasoda, Prof/EEE/Government College of Technology, Coimbatore and Dr.K.Lakshmi, Prof/EEE/Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore.

“WEBINAR ON BUSINESS 4.0 –THE BLOCKCHAIN REVOLUTION”

On behalf of SPICEE Association Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has organized a webinar on “Business 4.0 – The Blockchain Revolution” in main building seminar hall, K. S.Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode on 28th February 05.00 PM. The resource person of the webinar was Mr. Lakshminarasimhan Srinivasan, Global Head, TCS Blockchain at Tata Consultancy Services. He has rich experience of over 22 years spanning across USA, UK, Europe and India, and has been instrumental in driving growth and businesses for TCS. He has been the head of Telecom vertical in Europe and Telecom BPS practices, instrumental in refining the Global BPO Sales strategy. His efforts have been pivotal in setting up the Eco Sustainability Unit. He is a University gold medalist and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai, India.

He started his session with an introduction of Internet of Things (IoT) , and its scope in research and education. He illustrated that “The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) is the logical extension to a series of technological innovations dating back to the 19th century, that have evolved to improve the ways in which we live and work. Where the third industrial revolution brought us the internet, social networking and e-commerce, Industry 4.0 will be characterised by artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnologies, biotechnologies and blockchain. One of the greatest changes that Industry 4.0 will bring is that simple processes that are currently carried out manually will be undertaken by digital, autonomous systems, underpinned by blockchain technologies. In terms of IoT, this will mean that connected networks of devices will diminish the need for manual involvement, i.e. your central heating will come on as your car tells it that you are nearly home.” And he also gave an overview about the crypto currencies. He asked the students to update themselves in technical aspects with the present technological development.

GUEST LECTURE ON “LATEST TECHNOLOGIES IN LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEMS”

On behalf of SPICEE Association, Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on “LATEST TECHNOLOGIES IN LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEMS” on 27th September 2018. The Speaker for the lecture was Er. Ashok Kumar Elangovan, who is presently working as Lead Engineer, Scheinder Electric – Bangalore . He has 9 years of experience in the field of Validation testing and he is well versed in the area of circuit breakers, Communication Interfaces, Gateway Interfaces. He has also worked with different types of relay, meter and configuration devices. He has created logic mind map diagram for the requirement analysis of testing of systems with cloud feature.

In his lecture Er. Ashok Kumar Elangovan, discussed in brief about the Scheinder Electric and also the current works and projects carried by Scheinder Electric. He also introduced the participants to many exclusive examples and challenges in Distribution Systems. He shared his own experiences about the low voltage systems which is no longer just rely on the old formula. He illustrated about the recent technological advancements in tripping circuits. And also he briefed about the opportunities and various platforms in electrical domain. He motivated the students to be a part in technological advancements

PONGAL FESTIVAL COMPILATION

OPride and festive cheer marked the Pongal Festival Compilation held on 11th January 2019 at K.S.Rangasamy college of Technology, Tiruchengode. Students came in their traditional dresses and exhibited joy and pride as they filled the campus with the land’s cultural aura. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in course with SPICEE Association organized a plethora of programmes for the entertainment of the students. Class-wise competitions like Drawing, Essay writing, Singing, Traditional Makeup. Poetry Narration, Rangoli, Talent Show, Dance were held for the students to showcase their talents. Students were participated in the events with plenty of interest. The prize winners were chosen based on the performance and the prizes were given in order to motivate the students and to appreciate their participation. The highlight of the day was the ‘Kumis Attam’, ‘Silambattam’ and ‘Parai’ performed by the students. as a tribute to our tradition and our culture .

In the true spirit of Pongal, the students participated in decorating the place with ‘Pookkolam’. As a part of celebration, the students prepared and served delicious sweet Pongal to other students and staff members. Finally the pongal festival compilation ended with god’s blessings by devoting pongal to God. These kind of festivals are sacred moments helps everyone to establish love, unity and nourish their relationships.

GUEST LECTURE ON “CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS”

On behalf of Institutions of Engineers India, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on “Career Opportunities for Electrical Engineers” on main building seminar hall 05.01.2019. The Speaker for the lecture was Dr.B.Venkatesaperumal, Head of the Department, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka. He had very vast experience in the field of electrical, research and in teaching field.

He started his session with an introduction of IIT ‘s , NIT’s and its standards and policies in education. He motivated the students to prepare for GATE exam and he explained the students about the importance of GATE score in public sector and all fields.He aslo gave an overview about the IT related jobs also. He instructed the students to learn more practical things regarding the core subjects. And also he asked the students to update themselves in technical aspects with the present technological development. He concluded his motivational speech by informing the area of research proposals and funded projects.His session was really an eye-opener session for the students who are seeking for guidance regarding their career.

GUEST LECTURE ON “RECENT TRENDS IN POWER SYSTEM OPERATION AND CONTROL”

On behalf of SPICEE Association, in course with Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on, “Recent Trends In Power System Operation And Control” on 2nd February 2019 at 2.00 pm in Main building seminar hall. The guest speaker was Dr. K. Vetrivel, who is presently working as an Assistant Director, Power Systems Training Institute, Ministry of Power, Government of India Bengaluru. In his lecture he discussed about the recent advancements in power system operation and control. He informed that there are 9 National Power Training Institutes across India such as Newdelhi, Nangal, Bengaluru, Neyveli, Durgapur, Guwhati, Nagpur, Kharagpur, and Pune. The training will be offered for the engineering students and the mode of selection for the training can be processed based on the criteria. First of all they shortlist the students on the basis of screening test. After that they will offer the training to the students. And based on the performance they will pay upto 2.2 lakhs. The National power training institute is processing under the Ministry of power, Government of India

He explained that the National power traning institute at Bangalore is an Institute with experienced faculties, lecture rooms, conference and seminar halls, equipped with latest teaching aids, modern library, executive hostels and canteen which is spreaded around 16 acres. He motivated the students to apply for the training so that it will be good opportunity to make their career in good direction. And the students can acquire proper industrial exposure in the electrical domain. He concluded his speech by inquiring student volunteers for the training and ensure that the trained students will get job in their training institute or in some other fields of central government. Finally Dr. M. K. Elango, Head of the Department presented a memento to the chief guest as a token of love and gratitude.

All India Seminar on “TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES ON SMART GRID INTEGRATION WITH DISTRIBUTED GENERATION”

IEI (The Institution of Engineers (INDIA)) Local Chapter, Erode in association with Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy college of Technology, Tiruchengode, has organized an All India Seminar on “Technological Progress and Challenges on Smart Grid Integration with Distributed Generation” on 1st and 2nd February 2019 in Kanini Karutharangam. The program was started with a formal registration at 9.00 AM. The students and staff members from various colleges in Tamilnadu, totally 54 members has attended the seminar. In addition 32 internal participants from Department of EEE, K. S. Rangasmy College of Technology has also been participated. The inaugural session was started at 9.30 AM with a prayer song sung by the EEE Choir, followed by Miss. S. Keerthanadevi, IEI Student member delivered the welcome address. Dr M. K. Elango, Head of the Department, Department of EEE, briefed the Challenges in Smart Grid Integration with Distributed Generation in recent days and their importance in his inaugural address. He quoted that ‘Smart grid technology aids in achieving Smart India and Digital India scheme’. He also inquired the participants to utilize and participate actively during the sessions.

Dr. A. Kumaravel, Principal, K. S. Rangasmay College of Technology gave an admirable inaugural speech outlined the importance of engineer’s participation in research work and specified recent developments in substation and automation-digital substation. He quoted the importance of IE(I) Professional bodies. He appreciated the way that IEI helps the students and faculties by providing funds for their projects and research works.

Followed by principal, the chief guest Dr. C. Nallusamy Secretary IE(I) Erode Local Center, Erode, felicitates the gathering during inaugural function. During his felicitation he pointed the main problem in transmission line and the power loss. He delivered the importance of smart grid. In all over India it is important to replace all the conventional grid with smart grid for growth of economy. He is also excited in sharing their 100th year celebration of IEI in upcoming September and also he felt grateful to provide lots of grants for society-oriented projects in all fields of engineering on behalf of IEI.

Prof. S. Gomathi, Associate professor, Department of EEE, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, started the first session on 1st February, forenoon with a small introduction about the conventional grid and the history of the Indian grid system. She continued with the Indian power scenario and its future power requirements. She addressed the factors affecting the performance of existing grid. Standards definitions of smart grid and the expectation from the smart grid were illustrated. She elaborated about the Smart meters, smart information and smart structures. She also addressed the importance of smart grid in maintaining the demand of electricity, peak demand management and finally need of reduction in losses.


Dr.D.Sri Vidhya, Associate professor, Department of EEE, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology handled the afternoon technical session on 1st February. She delivered her technical talk on technologies and challenges in Smart Grid. She started with the architecture of smart grid and briefly explained the seven domains in the smart grid. She quoted that IEC plan for the year of 2030 so that the global country will get Fully Automated Power everywhere and also delivered a detailed speech on challenges and technologies utilized to increase the efficiency of the grid.

The second day of the Seminar was started on 2nd February forenoon with the key note address delivered.by Dr.M.K.Elango, Head of the Department, Department of EEE, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode. He delivered his speech on the topic of Distributed Generation Resources. He outlined the different resources for power generation and distribution of power in an efficient way to meet the power demand during the peak hours.
The next session has been engaged by the resourse person Dr.K.Vetrivel, Assistant Director, Power System Training Institute, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, Bangalore. He gave a clear idea about the ways to utilize maximum resourse from diversity region and to how to transfer power from surplus region to deficit region. He elaborated the evolution of grid in India with GDP growth rate make the session interactive. He addressed the facilities which are provided by the central government and state government for providing electricity to the rural area.

The final session on the second day was given by Dr.T.Venkatesan, Associate professor, Department of EEE, K. S. Rangasamy college of Technology. He started his address with the Demand Management in Smart Grid. He has given a brief introduction about the demand problem faced in smart grid and enhanced demand side management analysis with load shifting process.
Finally the seminar was successfully ended by issuing the certificates to the participants and with a group photo session. Hopefully this seminar will be helpful for all the UG students, PG scholars, research scholars, faculty members and practicing engineers in power generation and distribution sector of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

WORKSHOP ON “PYTHON AND IOT INTEGRATED TOOLKIT FOR LABVIEW”

On behalf of SPICEE Association, in course with Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a workshop on, “Python And IoT Integrated Toolkit for LABVIEW” on 28nd September 2018 in NICE lab. The resource person of the workshop was Prof. P. Manoj Kumar, M.E., He is presently working as an Assistant professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, K.S. Rangasmay College of Technology. He is well versed in the area of Internet of Things (IoT). He has tremendous ideas for projects which includes IoT in their control or development aspect. He has guided lots of projects related to IoT. He started the session with a general introduction to the Internet of Things, Cloud Storage and the Sensors. He explained that the Internet of things, commonly known as IOT, is an inter-connected network of objects that enable one to send, receive and exchange data without any human assistance. IOT is seen as the next great revolution in technology which has the potential to transform the way we live, the way we think, and the way we perform. He illustrated that in future, the technologies won’t be independent. They will be interdependent on various technologies for their operations and these all technologies are equally important. Then he gave an overview about the cloud technology.

Cloud computing is gaining more popularity in recent years and is already seen as a standard for most businesses. The access to the user becomes very simplified and even the user gets real and practical space for storage that we can use effectively without having to worry about larger mechanism intricacies or details. And also he mentioned that no specific qualification is needed to learn cloud computing. Just a basic knowledge of computers along with programming skills is enough. He motivated the students that prior knowledge or even relevant experience would give added to secure job in this field. Cloud computing field offers many job opportunities in a variety of roles ranging from IT systems, management, and user support, development in the application, as a business analyst, web developer and even in the field of net security. Each role demands a specific skill for entering this field. So he asked the students to develop their skills to enter into this technical field. He also explained about the interfacing LabVIEW with IoT and cloud such as Thingspeak, Dag-Io. And also he gave hands on training to the students on Python programming interfacing with LabVIEW.

NATIONAL LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM ELECTROFETE’ 2K18

The event started with the formal Inaugural function at 9.45 AM in Gallery Hall, KSRCAS on 27.09.18. The Chief Guest, Er. Ashok Kumar Elangovan, Lead Engineer, Scheinder Electric – Bangalore, Dr. M. K. Elango, HoD/EEE, KSRCT, Dr. S. Mahendran, Co-ordinator, SPICEE Association, Ms. R. Dhivyasree, Treasurer, SPICEE, Mr. Kadhar Mydheen, Executive Member, SPICEE, and Ms. R. K. Manjushree. Executive Member, SPICEE were present on the dias. The function started with the devotional Invocation Song by the EEE choir, followed by the welcome speech given by Ms. R. Dhivyasree, Treasurer, SPICEE, followed by presidential address delivered by Dr. M. K. Elango, HoD/EEE, KSRCT, followed by the Chief Guest Introduction given by Ms. V. Sangeetha, Executive Member, SPICEE, followed by the presidential address given by the Chief Guest, Er. Ashok Kumar Elangovan, Lead Engineer, Scheinder Electric – Bangalore. Then Vote of thanks was delivered by the Executive Member, SPICEE Ms. R. K. Manjushree.

During the function our chief guest Er. Ashok Kumar Elangovan, Lead Engineer, Scheinder Electric – Bangalore, released the Volume 4, Issue 1 of the Departmental Technical Magazine “e-POWER” which has Innovative and Creative technical articles, “e-POWER” Newsletter for the academic year 2017-2018, and “SOUVENIR” of “ELECTROFETE’18”, A National Level Technical Symposium, which has all the abstracts of the papers presented.
All technical and non technical events were conducted in EEE department various rooms. Students from 9 different colleges like Vivekananda College of Engineering for Women, Excel College of Engineering, Sengunthar Engineering College, Maharaja Engineering College, Nandha Engineering College, Paavai College of Engineering, Builders Engineering College, Vellalar College of Engineering and Technology, K. S. Rangasamy College of Engineering and from different departments of KSRCT were participated in the events. A workshop on the topic of “PYTHON AND IoT INTEGRATED TOOLKIT FOR LABVIEW” were held with a count of 66 students on 26th September. We have total count of 165 students registered for different events and in particularly we have 27 students for Paper Presentation, 74 students for EXPRESS TO IMPRESS, 12 students for TECH-ANNEX and 10 students for PICK ONE’S BRAIN. All events were completed by 3 PM with the winners list.
Cash prize of Rs. 1000 for 1st prize and Rs.750 for 2nd prize for technical events has been awarded and also cash prize of Rs.500 for first 3 prizes for project presentation has also been given. The function was finally ended by thanking management, Principal, HoD, Faculties, Non teaching staff, all student coordinators who worked for this event to make this event a grand success.

GUEST LECTURE ON “ROLE OF ELECRICAL ENGINEERS IN AUTOMATED ENVIRONMENT”

On behalf of Institutions of Engineers India IE(I) students’ chapter, Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, organized a guest lecture on “ROLE OF ELECRICAL ENGINEERS IN AUTOMATED ENVIRONMENT” on 20th July 2018. The Speaker for the lecture was Er. S.R. Saravanan, M.E., M.I.E. who is presently working as an Assistant Manager, Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Salem Steel Plant. He has 27 years of experience in the field of Electrical and Electronics and 23 years of experience in Engineering maintenance in Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Salem Steel Power Plant. He has received “STATE SHRAM SHREE” award by Tamilnadu government. He is the member of Institute of Engineers (India), Calicut, since 2005. He has been an “Executive committee Joint Honorary Secretary” in the local chapter of IE(I) Salem.

INAUGURAL FUNCTION

The SPICEE Association & Institutions of Engineers India IE(I) Students’ chapter of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department has organized the inaugural function for the academic year 2018-19 on 20th July, 2018 at Kanini Karutharangam, K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology (KSRCT), Tiruchengode. In the function, Er. S. R. Saravanan, M.E., M.I.E. Honorary Secretary, The Institution of Engineers IE(I), Salem Local Centre and Assistant Manager of Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Salem Steel Plant graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. A. Kumaravel, M.Tech., Ph.D, Principal / K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology and Dr. M. K. Elango, M.E., Ph.D, Professor and Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering presided over the function.

Mr. V. Nivas, Convenor/ISTE has presented the welcome address describing the inception and establishment of Department of EEE by untiring efforts made by the eminent faculty members and students.

Dr. S. Mahendran, M.E., Ph.D, Faculty Advisor has introduced the Office Bearers and Executive members of various Professional forums for the academic year 2018-19.
