About the Department

India’s textile and garment industry plays a major role in the world economy and in international trade. India’s textiles sector is one of the oldest industries in Indian economy dating back several centuries. Even today, textile sector is one of the largest contributors to India’s exports with approximately 13 per cent of the total exports. The textile industry is also labour intensive with the largest employers’ database.

Our Institution is situated in Namakkal District and it is juxtaposed by nearby districts like Erode, Tirupur and Karur. The strategic location of our Institution is that it islocated in the midst of textile industries. The nearby Karur district is recognized as Town of Export Excellence in the field of Home Textiles. Tirupur district is the hub of all the accomplishments as far as the textile industry is concerned. To tap these bounty potentials in the textile industry, an engineering college needs to introduce the branch of Textile Engineering. Hence, the pioneer of the course being reassured, KSRCT started the Textile Technology Department in the year 1997. The central government has established a powerloom training centre under the aegis of Powerloom Development Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) in Erode to impart training in developing designs for weavers and providing training in machinery working and maintenance of powerlooms and latest weaving machines. The main advantage of our Institution is the proximity to all industries for company visits and enables students to take up internships in the areas of their choice. The Department has strong links with the textile industries located in Tirupur, Karur, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai as well as other parts of India and overseas too. The Department textile technology has professionally well qualified and highly experienced faculty members with research and industrial experience. The Department has well-equipped with contemporary day facilities in Yarn Manufacture, Fabric Manufacture, Testing, Garment and Chemical Processing. The department library is stacked with good collection of books, international and national journals, to provide ample opportunities for the students to explore their propensity for learning and innovation in their field of study, besides the central library facility for students to enhance their knowledge in different domains. The Department has received funding from various government agencies like DST, DRDO, AICTE, Ministry of Textiles, SERB, CSIR, etc.
